Choose the correct answer.

Which of the following do all plant seeds need for germination?
A. Sun
B. Water
That's Correct!
It's Wrong!

All plant seeds need water or moisture in order to germinate. The taking in of water causes the seed coat to swell and allows the cells of the embryo to be rehydrated. Water dissolves the minerals in the soil so that they become available to the seed. Water also provides energy.

On the other hand, most plant seeds do better at germination in the dark. They do not need the sun for germination. After germination, however, light is needed.
